Barry Zito’s early-season excellence, which crested with an eight-inning, three-hit, 10-strikeout effort on April 24 against St. Louis. A thoroughly impressed friend dubbed it the best pitching performance he had seen since Don Drysdale blanked the Giants in the late 1960s.
